Basking in Theory

We have an inclination to observe. And even though there are more active and passive ways to observe, the ability to know and understand drive the behavior. Observing can be a trap though, because it’s comfortable position can lead us to get stuck in producing mere theory.

We, as a whole, feel largely fine with this though, since almost every part of our day that we consider valuable, is abstract. From the onset of our life's path we are encouraged to be certified by academia (almost exclusively theory based) and work in correspondingly civilized and conceptual jobs. We even spend our free time online with hopes that our stream of political statements and selfies will span the globe and make an impact (as it’s the only thing to do when convinced the solutions are top down and equally as non-concrete as everything else around us). As a result, our lives and theories can remain completely performative and in the realm of the ideal. It’s not in our job description to see if the rubber can even meet the road. Our strength is being the idea person anyway. Theory is enough, so why have praxis when no one demands we live out our own conjectures?
