A Thought on Meaningful Objects

We have the ability to instill objects with emotion and psyche, so that our consumption of them reflects back to us actual psychological experiences. Pure objects can then take part in subjectivity. In return, there’s a consistency that’s had that people, individually or as a whole, can’t maintain. The objects are less volatile, but their meaning’s can still evolve and be reformed.

This has occurred through history e.g. holy objects, spaces, art, etc., but meaning was dependent on society dictating the “right” interpretation. The thought of a right way of infusing and translating such objects is now largely offensive to us, which is most likely a logic we’ve inherited from Martin Luther. Now, through much of the western world, the individual’s personal signification is largely considered to be the only thing that matters.

If we see that objects can be molded so readily to meet the demands of anybody, to what degree do they lose value? Because of this, how likely are we to hold onto something that nobody else seems to care that much about?
