Movement

These are some of the more recent photos I’ve taken where me and the model are moving around the room capturing the images. I’ve been enjoying this way of shooting for a few reasons. There’s an inclination in photography to always hold really still to try and manufacture the perfect moment. As a result, the photographer and model tend to fall back into patterns that are comfortable, because one wants to try and guarantee of a decent image. Moving around forces everyone to explore the creation of shapes and aesthetics quickly and stop being as self conscious. Another I shoot this way is because it seems to be something fun for everyone involved. It feels more like play. A third reason is that the blurring, whether subtle or extreme, adds a pleasing ghostly effect. This gives a sense of depth to the subject as it takes away a literalness that photography so often falls into.
